Follow these 5 tips to stay positive

Health, according to the World Health Organization, is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity”.[1] A variety of definitions have been used for different purposes over time. Health can be promoted by encouraging healthful activities, such as regular physical exercise and adequate sleep,[2] and by reducing or avoiding unhealthful activities or situations, such as smoking or excessive stress. Some factors affecting health are due to individual choices, such as whether to engage in a high-risk behavior, while others are due to structural causes, such as whether the society is arranged in a way that makes it easier or harder for people to get necessary healthcare services. Still other factors are beyond both individual and group choices, such as genetic disorders.

Are you someone who chases happiness? Well, don’t because it’s not a goal but a mindset. Here are a few happiness hacks that will help you sail through 2022.

Well, who doesn’t want to be happy? Happiness is something everyone needs, and we keep looking for it everywhere without realizing that it’s right in front of us. The last two years have been tough for everyone around the globe, ever since the pandemic hit. With work from home, travel restrictions, and fear of the virus, we’ve all been taken through a trail of challenges and it’s high time we focus on ourselves and our happiness.

Let 2022 take us through immense mental peace and happiness by adopting healthy habits.

Here are some of the most effective ways by which you can fill joy into your day!

1. Buy experiences, not things

In 2022, let’s try and focus on making awesome memories that make you happy. Who says money can’t buy you happiness? Try going on a vacation with your friends, or on an adventure, and explore new places to eat or go for long drives, instead of spending your money on expensive materialistic things. Doing something is always a better feeling than having something.

2. Practice gratitude

You can never be unhappy when you’re grateful. Look at things around you, you have so much to be grateful for. The air that you breathe, the house that you’re living in, the education that you’ve had, your job, your family, money (even if you have little), your mobile phone, and the list can go on and on.

At the end of every day, think about what you did and the instances that took place throughout the day. Choose the three best things that happened during the day and say “thank you” for those things. Make it a regular habit, and see how fast your mood changes and how happy you feel.

3. Get better sleep

You might’ve noticed yourself being irritable, complaining, and messed up when you don’t get enough sleep. Well, your sleep quality can majorly determine your mood throughout the day. Quit late-night scrolling through social media and binge-watching series. Instead, create a sleep schedule and follow it every night.

For instance, read a few pages of a nice book before you sleep, arrange your bed neatly, lit scented candles, and think happy thoughts. Better sleep means a better and happy mood.

4. Help others

There is no greater joy than helping others. Some of us are blessed with more than what we need, while others don’t even have what they need. So why not share? Make a goal of helping at least one person in a week. The help could be anything, big or small. For instance, buy food for a poor boy on the street or help an old lady cross the road.

5. Acknowledge small wins

We often celebrate big wins like a promotion, buying a house, getting married, a birthday, or welcoming a new member to a family. In 2022, let’s celebrate the small wins too! Celebrate small wins by simply being grateful for it or doing your happy dance. Be it anything as simple as eating your favourite dish, meeting a friend, a good day at work, a Sunday, or nice weather. It could literally be anything.

When you start to focus on being happy, the thought itself of being happy will make you happy. Creating healthy habits can contribute massively to your state of happiness. Other than these little ways, you can also try meditating to keep your mind at peace, exercising, spending time with your family, and doing things you enjoy the most. Remember, happiness is not a goal, it’s a mindset.
