Millind Soman’s wife Ankita opens up on mental health issues

Battle with depression

Ankita, who is an avid believer in healthy eating and fitness, often shares Instagram posts about fitness motivation and drool-worthy couple pictures with Millind. The 30-year-old is also seen voicing her opinions on taboos and social stigmas like child molestation and racism. This time, she took to Instagram to share her fearless battle with depression and anxiety with her social media followers.

Recalling the days when she had a ‘storm in her head’, Ankita shared a beautiful sunkissed picture with a rather meaningful and bold caption. “After living a long period of anxiety and depression and getting out of it with all the courage I had in me, I still face tiny episodes of dark patches. Way milder, way shorter and way better than the ‘all consuming’ days I actually lived through.” she wrote in her post.

Sharing the turmoil she underwent, and her battle with depression, she wrote, “I don’t let it consume me, I cry when I have to, I don’t hold onto my thoughts like I used to. I let them come and go as they please. It requires a lot of practice but I’m getting better at it.”

Motivating people dealing with mental health issues to fight depression and emerge as winners, Ankita added, “I remember reading somewhere that ‘some of us require a little more effort to survive in this world than the rest’ and I have finally come to accept that fact. Of course the events and experiences of our lives play a huge role in it. But we must get all the help we can to navigate our way through it. It’s not easy and no it doesn’t get easier, you just get better and stronger.”

Other than seeking medical help, Ankita shares the things that you can do on your own on days when you’re dealing with a sinking feeling or depression.

These things may help:

  1. Physical and mental exercise
  2. Journaling
  3. Cutting down on caffeine
  4. Reducing alcohol intake
  5. Avoiding substance abuse
  6. Engaging with friends and family
  7. Seeking professional help when needed
  8. Keeping a check on triggers
  9. Looking at what you have achieved in spite of all the obstacles

Sending love to anyone battling depression, Ankita wrote, “If you’re having one of those dark days, I’m just here to remind you that your resilience is far stronger than the storm inside your head”
