Ministry of Ayush suggests preventive measures

Health, according to the World Health Organization, is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity”.[1] A variety of definitions have been used for different purposes over time. Health can be promoted by encouraging healthful activities, such as regular physical exercise and adequate sleep,[2] and by reducing or avoiding unhealthful activities or situations, such as smoking or excessive stress. Some factors affecting health are due to individual choices, such as whether to engage in a high-risk behavior, while others are due to structural causes, such as whether the society is arranged in a way that makes it easier or harder for people to get necessary healthcare services. Still other factors are beyond both individual and group choices, such as genetic disorders.

Care-givers to Covid-19 patients need to be careful about taking preventive measures against the virus. These are some tips from the Ayush Ministry.

Everyone needs to raise their guard against Covid-19 as the spate of cases of the deadly virus and its variant Omicron rise across the world. But people that definitely need to do all it takes to stay protected from the virus are those who are care-givers to Covid-19 patients.

Whether it is a medical professional or a family member, if you are exposed to or in contact with a Covid-19 patient, you must be extra careful. Considering that media reports claim that Omicron is a more transmissible variant than Delta, it’s definitely a cause for worry.

To combat the rise in cases, the Ministry of Ayush, which promotes alternative medicines systems including Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy, recently issued Covid-19 guidelines for care-givers.

The preventive healthcare guidelines have been shared in the form of an Instagram post, in an effort to “help the country battle this latest wave of the Covid-19 pandemic”.

It also comes with a disclaimer: “For any clinical condition, it is advised to consult a qualified physician.”

Ministry of Ayush guidelines for Covid-19 care-givers:

Individuals who are exposed or in contact with Covid-19 patients:

    1. Ayu Raksha Kit, a combination of four interventions – Chyawanprash, Samshamani Vati, Ayush kwath, and Anu Taila as per the following instructions:

    * Chyawanprash 6 gm once a day
    * Ayush Kwath 75 ml (3 gm powder boiled in 150 ml water and reduced to 75 ml) once a day
    * Samshamani Vati 500 mg twice a day
    * Anu Taila – two drops nasal application in each nostril twice a day

    2. Arsenicum album 30C 4 globules of size 30, once a day in the morning, preferably empty stomach for three days and to be repeated in the same manner after 3 weeks.

    3. Khamira Marwareed 5 gm once a day for 15 days.

    General instructions for Covid-19 caregivers:

    1. Drink lukewarm water frequently
    2. Gargling with warm water added with a pinch of turmeric and salt.
    3. Food should be easily prepared and easily digestible.
    4. Take adequate sleep (7-8 hours) and avoid daytime sleep
    5. Steam inhalation with Ajwain (Trachyspermum Ammi), Pudina ( Mentha soicata), or Eucalyptus oil (1-5 drops), or Karpur (camphor) once a day.
    6. Daily practices of yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation for at least 30 minutes.

Besides this, you must take the basic preventive steps of maintaining distance and wearing a proper mask.
