Shilpa Shetty begins her week with yoga asana for cleansing

Shilpa took to Instagram on Monday to serve us some fitness motivation with her latest post. She posted a video of herself practicing some cleansing yoga poses like Udarakarshanasana. The name of this asana might be difficult to pronounce, but look at the ease with which Shilpa performs it.

The actress was seen doing the abdominal twist asana that is known to have cleansing benefits when done properly. In the video, Shilpa can be seen standing on a yoga mat and stretching her body backwards followed by a plank position. Her position changes to balancing her body while sitting on toes. The actress repeats this yoga posture on both sides.

Shilpa attributed her post to the celebrated Indian yoga teacher B.K. S. Iyengar. Her post read, “ I remember reading a quote by Shri B.K. S. Iyengar a while ago. “Asanas maintain the strength and health of the body, without which little progress can be made. Asanas keep the body in harmony with nature.”  

Shilpa keeps switching between the yoga poses she does and even her exercise regime.

Touching upon it, she adds, “I enjoy practising diverse asanas because each one of them helps me work on my mind, body, and soul effectively. I started my day with the Udarakarshanasana (or the abdominal twist), which is a part of Shankha Prakshalana: the yogic cleansing of the intestine.”

According to the actress, these are the benefits of Udarakarshanasana:

  • It helps relieve constipation and other digestive issues
  • It also helps remove toxins from the body
  • It improves spine flexibility
  • It provides a good stretch to toes, ankles and knee joints.

And all the advantages combined convince Shilpa that there is “no better way to start the week” for her.
